Position: Visitor Center Assistant
Status: Seasonal/Part-time, March through September, up to 30+ hours per week/ Wages DOE
Reports To: Tourism & Education Manager
This is an hourly paid, seasonal position working in the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center and Logo Gift Shop, located near the bridge in Soldotna, Alaska. Soldotna Chamber of Commerce employees are employed AT WILL.
Requirements & Qualifications:
· Possess a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance or have consistent transportation to the workplace.
· Willingness to wear Soldotna logo wear or uniform
· Willingness to work less hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays; employees average 30 hours/week - but can vary, plus or minus
· Beginning skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, iPad operations, POS Systems like Square, and copiers
· Candidates must be “physically able to perform” duties including“frequent lifting up to 40 pounds (moderate to heavy boxes of visitor guides), bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, typing, prolonged standing or sitting
· Light housekeeping and yard work
Desirable Skills and Knowledge:
· Ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner in person and over the phone
· Knowledge and enthusiasm for the State of Alaska, Kenai Peninsula, and specifically, the greater Soldotna area’s resources and recreational opportunities
· Familiar with cash register operations (POS Systems), programming, and end of the day accountability
· Intermediate computer skills; ability to perform online research and education skills
· Understands and practices a team mentality environment
· Resourcefulness and multi-tasking capabilities
Duties and Responsibilities: May include, but is not limited to the following:
· Welcome visitors and answer questions; direct visitors to business products and services
· Provide and distribute information to the public by phone and personal contact; assist with the mass mailing of visitor guides; create & prepare informational packets
· Logo store operation including receiving, stocking, inventory and sales of merchandise, cash register operation and programming, and accountability; sell park passes and maintain log of sales
· Open and close the visitor center on scheduled days following opening and closing procedures
· Maintain a neat and clean appearance about the visitor center facility and grounds, frequently monitoring public activities within and around the center
· Assist the Tourism Manager with promotional activities and events and other duties as may be required to provide quality services to the visiting public
· Attend orientation training, staff meetings and/ or other special events as requested by Tourism Manager
